To the Max!
I'm in Eugene, OR for 24 hours. So far I have not seen any hippies, but I have felt pressure to go running (It's track city USA!). My hotel's billboard cracked me up:

Flowers
The bouquets at the farmer's markets in Seattle seem really cheap to this new come. I picked this one up for $5 on Saturday. Planning on indulging now before the novelty wears off!

SEE-Attle
Um, yah. I'm on a roll of bad pun titles. So I moved to Seattle last week. So far so good. In order to get a view of the place we went on a SeaPlane tour. It was fantastic (and the most beautiful day ever). The ride was great-- so great I only thought to take pictures when we were landing. Come visit me here and we'll go again.
An added bonus of the flight was these motion sickness bags, complete with awesome packaging and very detailed instructions for use.

Making Space
I'm renting a furnished house, so it's been a little tricky making the space feel like my own. Luckily very talented Liz Galvin helped me with the living room. Loving how she styled my bookcase!

Making Whoopie!
Pies!* I've been slightly obsessed with Whoopie Pies for the last year. I finally made a batch. I used a Williams Sonoma recipe for the pie and this recipe for the filling. Overall they were good, but I want a better filling recipe. Any tips? I think that the powder sugar taste is too strong. Also, as you can see in the picture the filling was a little oozy.
*apologies for lamest title maybe ever.

K-Bec
Was in Montreal for a conference. But mainly I just explored the city and ate poutine. Which means I'll probably have a heart attack really really soon. In case you've never had the pleasure, poutine is french fries + gravy + cheese curds. Also sometimes people get creative and add things like bacon or steak or sausage. I liked Montreal a lot even though I only saw Celine on the T.V.

The End of an Era
Tonight is my last night in California-- after exactly a decade of living it here. I love it here-- the people, the culture, the weather, the vibe. Everything. I'm leaving for all the right reasons, but it's still bittersweet. Come visit me in Seattle!

For Science
After many years of plotting, I finally threw a taste testing party. In honor of Rebecca and Derek's wedding I felt some R&D was in order. The theme was Love: The Grand Experiment. It was a lot of work, but came together thanks to lots of help from everyone. Jordan designed the awesome invites. I borrowed beakers and lab coats from various friends. Many of Rebecca's friends donated her favorite foods as scientific specimens. When guests showed up the were handed a clip board with their evaluation form a custom pencil that said "The Grand Experiment", and some giant nerds. They then went and taste tested samples of things like bacon, ice cream, honey, salsa, pepper mint patties, and cheeses. All for science. Turns out that people like a lot of the store brands after all.

Oh, and Liz, who was super gracious and hosted the event at her house put up a nice post about it here.

Custom
Ran across Olive and Sinclair Chocolate in Nashville. Their packaging is the best, and I'm always for artisan chocolate. I tried the Sea Salt Chocolate. It was aight, but not as tight as the pretty wrapper it came in. Hopefully they'll update their website soon. For now there is the blog.
Photo is from their facebook page.

One thing we can all agree on
Love, sweet love. Send this to someone you love today.
As a side note, I have a crush on the Paramount Theatre

Praying for Change
What you need to do today:
Vote, Vote, Vote, I can't emphasize how important it is for each of us to get out and vote today. The presidential election is important, but there are so many local issues that you need to weigh in too. No excuses.
Once you've voted, it's time to reap the benefits of our eatocracy. Tons of freebies to be had if you vote today. Full list here, but everything from free ice cream and donuts to salads and coffee. I think this Thermals song is an appropriate sound track for the day.

Halloweening
Went as Eagle vs. Shark (clearly I was the scariest animal there is, and you can't even see my tallons). Thanks to Rebecca for the great idea and inspiration. Although only maybe two other people on the planet have seen that movie, we did run into another Eagle vs. Shark on the street at the end of the night. We were way fiercer.
