Ah, shucks!
Nice to get a shout how from a famous blogger of impeccable tastes (who I'm lucky to count as a friend)! Ali did a post on this spread from Life Magazine on small Utah towns in the 1950's. In high school and college my friends and I would often go on day trips to random towns. The names are amazing-- LaVan (that's navel backwards, located in the middle of the state), Parowan, Laverkin etc. etc. In one of those funny coincidences, the same day I stumbled across the Life spread, I'd just finished reading the latest Anthology Mag, which has a piece on a house in Toquerville Utah-- one of the towns feature in Life.

Your Wish?!
My friend Liz had the absolutely genius idea of granting permission. To people. For things. The things that you've been wanting to do, but you haven't been able to get yourself to do. Yet. I helped her set up a blog. Go here, make a comment, and presto-magico, you mightst get the green light you've been waiting for.
(to brag about Liz's expertise.. she's a professor of design, mother of 2, and of the the spunkiest and creative people ever-- she knows how to get things done!)

Move(d)!
My amazingly talented friend Karisa helped me create these moving announcements. She's the BEST to work with: crazy talented, very nice, and great at helping you make what you want. She even found these envelopes for me and got a return address stamp made. It took about 10 minutes to sew the line on my machine. So easy. These pictures don't even do them justice. Karisa really, really rocks.

Making Space
I'm renting a furnished house, so it's been a little tricky making the space feel like my own. Luckily very talented Liz Galvin helped me with the living room. Loving how she styled my bookcase!

Weekend Report
Spent part of the weekend in Sacramento with Rachel of Darlybird (or rather Darlybird is of her) engaging in a little R&D with vintage flowers and cabachons. One result was the brooch on this hat (thanks chi!).
We also hit some thrift stores where I completed my Pyrex collection (amish butterprint what woot).
We also found the BEST EVER tag. It was on a pair of little boys pants. WOW.

So Lucky
Growing up I moved around a lot. All over the world, and often. I always wondered what it would be like to have the same best friend K-12. The result of this is that I'm sorta like human saran wrap-- once we become friends, I'm difficult to shake-- no matter how many time zones are between us. I'm blessed to call many of the most talented, creative, kind, nurturing, fun, good, happy, caring, hard working, and amazing people I know friends. I'm incredibly grateful to have all of you in my life. One day I'll win the lottery and we can all move to the same city and let our kids grow up being best friends K-12. Thanks everyone for all the nice and awesome things you constantly do for me!

DTR
Homophily is basically the idea that we like people or things that are like us-- you know birds of the feather flock together etc. During a recent concert expedition we had a chance to do a little sociological research as we played "are you my (part-time) boyfriend?" with Kristen. She was wearing this American Apparel sweatshirt, and so was every eligible guy at the show. The game goes like this-- she approaches but doesn't actually make contact with them, while us social scientists fought to get a photo that captured their love. Please vote for who should be promoted to full-time boyfriend status in the comments.

No, not the best movie ever made, what'sup Christian Slater? But man, Keith's Rubik's Cube collection is the best nerd eye candy ever. Keith, btw, is married to the equally genius Lindy who snapped this picture. Though, I'm pretty sure the rubric was made by Keith.

Keep the Old
Old friends are the best, especially when they bring a new friend to the world. Behold the beautiful baby June, whose parents I was extra lucky to see last week!

Summer Music
When I was little I got angry at yard work one day and announced that when I grew up I was going to pave my yard. As luck would have it, my yard now is indeed enormous and concrete. Which, turns out, is the perfect place to have bands play at. Last night some old friends (Adam and Darcie, a recent friend (Taught Me), and some new friends (Canoe) played in my backyard. We had s'mores and listened to their pretty music. Check it all out, they're great.

Joy to you and me.
Not to brag (again), but my friends are rad. My friend Jeanne hand makes and sells these amazing leather toys. They're beautiful. You can even buy animal pairs sans ark and the rest of creation. Pair of alligators anyone? Way better than that plastic baby gift you were thinking of.You can make them yours (or some lucky kid's) by emailing her at regina.moominbaby@ gmail.com.

Contender Cycles
My friend Alison and her husband Ryan own the best bike shop in America (this isn't me boasting, this is true-- they've won awards). I liked this news article on their efforts to help outfit an olympic athlete for his races. If you ever need a bike, give them a call. I'll just say that getting a bike in the mail is one of the best surprises you can find on your front porch.
