Charley!

Not sure where I stumbled across this, but Housetrends magazine (go Cincinnati!) has a cool article on the house where Charley Harper and his wife lived for 50 years. That's right. A house with a giant ladybug on it.I also love this tile mosaic by Harper in the Cincinnati Federal building.

Sky High

Apparently all I want to do is take pictures from the sky or of the sky. Over-exposed Jesus. I like how this shot turned out-- both ways.

Toot-toot

The guest book I made for Rebecca's wedding made it onto the Martha Stewart Wedding blog! Check out all the pictures- it was such a fun and happy day! I feel lucky I got to be a part of it. Picture by Rachel Thurston from here

Workshop(ed)

Tom Douglas is a bit of a Seattle icon. He has a bazillion restaurants (the ones I've tried have been pretty tasty). I hit his newest, Dahlia Workshop for a working breakfast. Lo and behold the man himself was there (and even answered a question I asked the checkout girl). Witness creepy stalker picture below of him in front of the menu board. My fried green tomato and bacon biscuit was delicious.

Bulk-Up

I have a weird fear/loathing of grocery stores. I get lost. I wander aimlessly. I lose hope, etc. So when a friend suggested we hit WinCo, I wasn't that thrilled. But, I ended up thinking that it was so amazingly cool looking. Plus, any store that touts Fruit Rolls, Pig Ears, and Dog Bisuits in the same breath is just plain rad. Wanted to take more pix, but an employee in bulk foods busted me and said "we don't take pictures at WinCo". We don't?!

Ah, shucks!

Nice to get a shout how from a famous blogger of impeccable tastes (who I'm lucky to count as a friend)! Ali did a post on this spread from Life Magazine on small Utah towns in the 1950's. In high school and college my friends and I would often go on day trips to random towns. The names are amazing-- LaVan (that's navel backwards, located in the middle of the state), Parowan, Laverkin etc. etc. In one of those funny coincidences, the same day I stumbled across the Life spread, I'd just finished reading the latest Anthology Mag, which has a piece on a house in Toquerville Utah-- one of the towns feature in Life.Images from Life Magazine via Ali via BYU Museum of Art; photography by Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange.

Love Sweet Love

I really like Valentines Day-- mainly because there's so many people I love in this world, and it's always nice to get to tell them so. A few things that I'm especially loving today:

Heart Shaped Boiled Egg (all natural!!) from Anna the Red

Heart Shaped Umbrella (found via fieldguided)

My Roomy sent me these-- so cute!

I love this. So. Much.

This book is amazing. Olivia gave me a copy a few years back, and I treasure it. Make sure to read this story by Mark Twain. The line " Wheresoever she was, THERE was Eden" gets me every time.

My heart BEETS only for you. You know who you are.
Also, I find safety gear and technology incredibly sexy. Don't you?
Happy Valentine's Day. I love you all

Good Old Fashion Friendraising

Lane gave me the idea of having a friend-raiser after the move to Seattle. Valentine's making turned out to be the perfect occasion. We made pretty things and ate pretty things. But only if they were red, white, or pink.

"you're 16, and you're no e.e.cummings"

I can't remember who exactly said this-- maybe Chi? When we were in high school in response to some pretentious attempt by someone (not me) at poetry writing. It's always stuck with me. As has my love for e.e. cummings. I grew up with my dad reading me "in just" every spring. I love, LOVE, this poem Angela posted. And hey, it's valentine's.

sappy february

Love this video (it's an ad, but still.) and especially the song by Soko. Actually, it's a pretty anti-sappy song. But still sweet.

1+1=1!

I took this diy chalkboard paint project from Martha and this chalkboard globe project from Design Sponge and voila... chalkboard globe of my dreams (almost).
A few tips-- I think it really would be easier to do two colors. I suggest using a white paint marker with a flat tip over the chalkboard paint to trace in the continents. I left a few of the ornate details uncovered and they look decoupaged. I talked my roomy into a quicker version with spray chalkboard paint in black and fluorescent pink spray paint for the stand. Also awesome. The only downside of this project is that it is not helping me curb my globe buying habit.

I love sugary power pop. Both these songs currently have me bopping my head as I'm working away.

Ooey, Gooey!

Oh.. that ooey gooey deliciousness? Mozzarella cheese that I made, thanks to an awesome Christmas surprise, courtesy of M. Add it to the things I'll do for you when you visit me in Seattle. Home. made. cheese. I'll even do organic if you want.
